The Palouse

Verdant Rolling Hills

Serene and pastoral, the Palouse is a region in south eastern Washington characterized by gentle rolling hills that look like giant sand dunes. Located just south of Spokane, the Palouse is a rich farming area of some 3,000 square miles. It is somewhat reminiscent of Tuscany, except instead of grapes the main crop here is wheat and canola. In the spring, the rolling hills are lush shades of green when the crops are young, and in the summer they are dry shades of brown when the crops are ready for harvest.
